Spellcast
Spellcast is a NetEnt slot that features wizards, witches and some magical wins. Released way back in 2006, the graphics are naturally a bit dated compared to NetEnt’s newer games, though are on a par with some lesser known developers. This does not detract from the gameplay whatsoever and Spellcast is a truly enjoyable slot to play.
Spellcast Slot Tips
Before spinning the reels of Spellcast online slot, it’s a good idea to learn how the game works. Click on ‘Paytable’ beneath the leftmost reel to see the mappings for each bet line, prize symbol values and how the special features work.
You’ll notice that the castle is the most valuable of the standard symbols and is worth 750 coins for 5 in a row on any active bet line. Bet line wins pay if in succession from leftmost to right and unlike most slots, some symbols only need to appear twice in succession to make a winning combo.
Wilds are denoted by the wizard and substitute for all other symbols except scatter symbols. On top of this, they add a 2x multiplier to winning bet lines that feature standard symbols. 5 wilds in succession on an active bet line will win you the jackpot payout of 10,000 coins. For the avoidance of doubt, winning combinations made solely of wilds are not multiplied.
Scatter symbols are represented by the crystal ball and do not need to appear on the same bet line. Get 2 or more scatters anywhere across the reels to have a multiplier applied to your bet for that spin, up to 500x for 5 scatter symbols. 3 or more scatters will unlock a round of 15 free spins, during which wins are given a 3x multiplier.
Setting up the game is really easy to do and takes a matter of seconds. Start off by clicking ‘Bet Lines’ to decide how many bet lines you wish to play. Then select your ‘Coin Value’ and set the ‘Bet Level’ which determines how many coins will be placed on each active bet line. For example; with all bet lines active, a coin value of 0.05 at bet level 2 will result in a cost of 2.00 per spin (0.05 x 2 = 0.10 x 20 bet lines = 2.00). The ‘Max Bet’ button will automatically set the number of bet lines to 20 and bet level to 4 before initiating a spin. With this in mind, be sure to check the coin value before you use this feature as the cost per bet will be 80 times the coin value displayed.
You can customise a few user preferences via the four buttons at the bottom of the screen. The spanner has on/off options for ambient sound and sound effects while the overall volume is controlled via the speaker icon. The question mark opens up the help menu and the Auto button allows you to set up the auto spin feature.
To begin playing Spellcast video slot, simply click the green circle with white arrows or use the auto spin feature. The skill stop feature can be activated by clicking the spin button again while the reels are still spinning.
Spellcast Slot Tips
Spellcast slot may be quite old but you’ll find it to be widely available at the likes of Betsafe Casino, Redbet Casino and PlayHippo. It’s not available on mobile and you won’t see it featured in any welcome packages or promotions.
It’s not a game to target for life-changing wins or beating a bonus and is more middle of the road. You’ll experience some lean spells with hardly any notable wins but will hit a fairly decent payout every now and again.
The fact that some of the symbols only need to be paired up does keep the small wins coming in to some degree, but these usually amount to less than the cost per spin and your best chance of a decent payout comes in the free spins game where wins are tripled. It can take a while to get the necessary scatters but we persevered and got a nice 996 coin return for our efforts which isn’t bad at all. If you were to get 5 wilds in the free spins game, you’d be looking at 30,000 coins at bet level 1 which is a considerable casino reward.
Is Spellcast The Right Slot For You?
Spellcast is a medium variance slot which allows for a good blend of entertainment with the chance of pocketing a half-decent win. The RTP is 96% which gives the casino a house edge of 4%. This is good for an online slot and allows for a lengthy play session on Spellcast given a suitable bankroll and good bet management.
The graphics in this game are not going to blow you away but if you look past that it can be great fun to play. In terms of pace, there is little to slow you down, so you can rattle through a fair few spins in next to no time. Animations are also minimal, though do add a little something to the experience, particularly when the wild wizard does his evil laugh.
The ambient sound changes considerably when you get three scatters for a round of free spins. Dramatic battle music plays with a howling wind as you watch the free spins game play out, adding to the excitement as your treble wins start to mount up.
Spellcast lacks the bonus games and extra features or more modern NetEnt slots but is an ideal medium risk game for beginners and slots players who like a minimal fuss session.
